Based on the analysis of the various properties of sand cores and castings, the advantages and benefits of new silicate binders and processes are shown. Particular consideration is given to the air-assisted warm core box process with one- and two-component inorganic binders which successfully replaced widely used cold box process and organic binders in the mass production of aluminum castings for automotive engines. Other novel technologies based on modified inorganic binders are discussed. Among them are sand mold and core production with geopolymeric binders effectively used instead of traditional water glass, and the ablation process which allows control of metal solidification by utilizing the properties of a highly soluble inorganic binder to provide rapid cooling of the casting in the mold. | ||

Particular consideration is given to the air-assisted warm core box process with one- and two-component inorganic binders which successfully replaced widely used cold box process and organic binders in the mass production of aluminum castings for automotive engines. Other novel technologies based on modified inorganic binders are discussed. Among them are sand mold and core production with geopolymeric binders effectively used instead of traditional water glass, and the ablation process which allows control of metal solidification by utilizing the properties of a highly soluble inorganic binder to provide rapid cooling of the casting in the mold. inorganic binder (dpeaa)DE-He213 sodium silicate-bonded sands (dpeaa)DE-He213 core properties (dpeaa)DE-He213 chemically cured sands (dpeaa)DE-He213 geopolymeric silicate binders (dpeaa)DE-He213 Enthalten in International journal of metalcasting Schaumburg, Ill. : AFS, 2007 10(2015), 1 vom: 30. Modified Silicate Binders New Developments and Applications |
abstract |
Abstract This paper examines recent advances in the technology and application of sodium silicate-bonded sands. © American Foundry Society 2015 |

Among them are sand mold and core production with geopolymeric binders effectively used instead of traditional water glass, and the ablation process which allows control of metal solidification by utilizing the properties of a highly soluble inorganic binder to provide rapid cooling of the casting in the mold.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="4"><subfield code="a">inorganic binder</subfield><subfield code="7">(dpeaa)DE-He213</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="4"><subfield code="a">sodium silicate-bonded sands</subfield><subfield code="7">(dpeaa)DE-He213</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="4"><subfield code="a">core properties</subfield><subfield code="7">(dpeaa)DE-He213</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="4"><subfield code="a">chemically cured sands</subfield><subfield code="7">(dpeaa)DE-He213</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="4"><subfield code="a">geopolymeric silicate binders</subfield><subfield code="7">(dpeaa)DE-He213</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="773" ind1="0" ind2="8"><subfield code="i">Enthalten in</subfield><subfield code="t">International journal of metalcasting</subfield><subfield code="d">Schaumburg, Ill. : AFS, 2007</subfield><subfield code="g">10(2015), 1 vom: 30.
