However, the Intolerance of Uncertainty Scale (Short Form) for Children (IUSC-12), a recently developed self-reported questionnaire specifically designed to assess IU in children and adolescents, has received limited examination, particularly in non-Western countries. This current study aims to evaluate the factor structure and psychometric properties of the Chinese version of the IUSC-12 (CIUSC-12) in 5672 Chinese adolescents. Confirmatory factor analyses favored the bifactor model for the CIUSC-12, showing stable gender invariance. Moreover, the CIUSC-12 demonstrated robust reliability and exhibited favorable convergent validity and predictive validity through its correlations with measures of anxiety and depression. These findings collectively support the CIUSC-12 as a well-validated measure and a promising tool for assessing IU in Chinese adolescents. Using the total score of the CIUSC-12 is recommended for future research. | ||

Abstract The role of intolerance of uncertainty (IU) in the acquisition, maintenance, and treatment of various psychopathologies highlights the critical need for reliable assessment tools. However, the Intolerance of Uncertainty Scale (Short Form) for Children (IUSC-12), a recently developed self-reported questionnaire specifically designed to assess IU in children and adolescents, has received limited examination, particularly in non-Western countries. This current study aims to evaluate the factor structure and psychometric properties of the Chinese version of the IUSC-12 (CIUSC-12) in 5672 Chinese adolescents. Confirmatory factor analyses favored the bifactor model for the CIUSC-12, showing stable gender invariance. Moreover, the CIUSC-12 demonstrated robust reliability and exhibited favorable convergent validity and predictive validity through its correlations with measures of anxiety and depression. These findings collectively support the CIUSC-12 as a well-validated measure and a promising tool for assessing IU in Chinese adolescents. Using the total score of the CIUSC-12 is recommended for future research. However, the Intolerance of Uncertainty Scale (Short Form) for Children (IUSC-12), a recently developed self-reported questionnaire specifically designed to assess IU in children and adolescents, has received limited examination, particularly in non-Western countries. This current study aims to evaluate the factor structure and psychometric properties of the Chinese version of the IUSC-12 (CIUSC-12) in 5672 Chinese adolescents. Confirmatory factor analyses favored the bifactor model for the CIUSC-12, showing stable gender invariance. Moreover, the CIUSC-12 demonstrated robust reliability and exhibited favorable convergent validity and predictive validity through its correlations with measures of anxiety and depression. These findings collectively support the CIUSC-12 as a well-validated measure and a promising tool for assessing IU in Chinese adolescents. Abstract The role of intolerance of uncertainty (IU) in the acquisition, maintenance, and treatment of various psychopathologies highlights the critical need for reliable assessment tools. However, the Intolerance of Uncertainty Scale (Short Form) for Children (IUSC-12), a recently developed self-reported questionnaire specifically designed to assess IU in children and adolescents, has received limited examination, particularly in non-Western countries. This current study aims to evaluate the factor structure and psychometric properties of the Chinese version of the IUSC-12 (CIUSC-12) in 5672 Chinese adolescents. Confirmatory factor analyses favored the bifactor model for the CIUSC-12, showing stable gender invariance. Moreover, the CIUSC-12 demonstrated robust reliability and exhibited favorable convergent validity and predictive validity through its correlations with measures of anxiety and depression. These findings collectively support the CIUSC-12 as a well-validated measure and a promising tool for assessing IU in Chinese adolescents. Using the total score of the CIUSC-12 is recommended for future research. © Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2024.
